Writing for LBC today, our Chair and Founder, Andrew Dixon, sets out why a surcharge on the most expensive homes misses the real problem.

Council Tax still runs on 1991 valuations, so families in modest homes already pay proportionally more than those in mansions. Not only that, but based on current trends, Band A bills could climb by £900+ a year to £2,500 a year.

An extra charge on someone else’s mansion won’t help anyone struggling to pay their own bill, and the system needs total overhaul to make it fair and functional. Not just tweaks around the edges.

Politicians have dodged reform for years, but voters across every major party want a fairer system.

On Wednesday, the Chancellor can make a start by launching a full, independent review of Council Tax and Stamp Duty. Read Andrew’s full article here.
